Hyeyoung yun - Utopic diary?

Utopic diary?
(2010)

(Hyeyoung YUN)

My art work comes from almost all my personal experiences in most of my times.
So is this video work.

As I am a stranger/an art school student, here in France, I often oberserve the things, the situations here where I am, in a different way from the french people, which differentiates the point of view on 'utopia'.
All the students in my school are in the process of searching and building their own utopia while they are in an art school. Professors ask each art student to create their own world, own territory and finally their own utopia to show their own personality in an art field.
But what about this process of creating our own utopia?
We have our reality images, I.e.we try to perceive our own realty through our own perspectives and through this process we build our own utopia.
Without any perception of the reality that we see, we can't create any utopia. First of all, we need to observe the world, our surroundings.

In my video, there are lots of different video images that come from other people not from me. Some of the images are filmed through the eyes of my french art school friends, some of them are the images of my own camera. I wanted to show my perspectives and my french friend's perspectives on our world and surroundings, so that people can imagine who we are, what we observe and furthermore what kind of utopia we would create in our art in the near future.

I felt that I was always excluded from the western, african people despite good friendships with them. I felt always I am kind of different from the people here( and even in my homeland 'South Korea').
