'The State of Things' is a group show that deliberately works on two levels. it operates as a survey show of emerging art from Pakistan.
it also refers to the practice, common among a number of contemporary Pakistani artists, of using everyday items, objects and imagery as the materials of their art work, which are often transformed through their handling, into art objects. The stuff of life that surrounds us provides the ingredients that these artists work with - a reflection perhaps of the desire to reflect on and draw in the complex everyday realities of Pakistan whilst avoiding the didactic and embracing the poetic.
