Photographing was banned in the area I moved away. That is because of Design City project: Nothing bad was supposed to happen here. In Brazil, police shoots unwanted people in the street before big tourist events.
Instead the area I`m living in now is so closed to the centrum (and tourists) that it has to look good no matter how poor people lives here. Police has cameras here everywhere.
Yesterday there was a doll performing kid rape and text SICK :) at my door. My first thought was that I wish that raped kids in this block wouldn`t see it and feel threatened like I did. I had a camera with me. I felt so stressed it didn`t come over I could have taken a pic of it.
It is possible that "performance" was a revenge of my work against paedophilia, but it wouldn`t had mattered in the long term, if I only would have taken a pic and put it here. Then I would have captured the viewer`s eye, which is what political camera wars are all about.
I refuse to be a scapegoat for this shit, even I brought it public. That`s what true artists do, bring important issues to disgussion so the failures can be changed in the future. That`s what hiphop roots were originally about.
Take a picture, it`s worth of a lot.
