A Free for All Links ("FFA") page is usually a scrolling list of submitted links: as new sites are submitted, old ones drop off.
- Many FFAs get their submissions from either occasionally webmasters submitting their sites or from automated submissions. You should be aware that there might be few, if any, people actually browsing the links.
- Some FFAs receive many submissions: so the links may not last too long - perhaps even just hours or minutes.
- It's common that by submitting to one of these pages, you are also agreeing to be emailed by the owner. In fact, the owner might well have set up the site, not as an attempt to establish some kind of directory or search tool, but purely so he can send you his adverts in an e-mail message ("thank you for submitting to my page, would you like to sign up for this or that?").
- If you submit to many links pages, you could get a lot of e-mail - perhaps even one per page.
- When was the last time you bought something as a result of an seeing something on one of these pages?
This is why we don't submit to FFAs anymore.
However you're entitled to a different opinion if you want - so if you disagree, go ahead and submit to them.
But: remember that submitting to lots of FFAs can generate a lot of e-mail ads sent to you. You might not want to use your primary e-mail address! Instead you could get a separate e-mail account just for submissions, so your primary e-mail account does not become clogged up with many "thank you" messages and ads.
