The exhibtion  Luxembourg - The City Of Short Distances of the Photo Club of the European Institutions in Luxembourg (CIEL) which I am curating has travelled to the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg. I created 2 series related to the theme :

Happy to announce that the exhibition LUXEMBOURG - THE CITY OF SHORT DISTANCES of the photographers of C.I.E.L. (Photographers of the European Institutions in Luxembourg) will be exhibited at the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg from December, 14 2009 until January 9, 2010. Participation at the vernissage only on invitation base.

The art symposium in Saarbrücken/Germany is over... one intense week with a small group of artists - Michael Oberlik who even came to me and presented him as a member of our community Cultureinside. I am very happy that I was invited to participate in this event, going back to the Saarland, my hometown Saarbrücken and meeting with artists from this land and also from Europe, Albania, Italy, France... ! First of all I want to say thank you to Volker Schmidt - artist and the founder of this event seven years ago, and Carmen Schaefer, you both did a great job for all of us, you managed for us to have a great space, high visibility and excellent ambiance. I am happy to be now in contact with you! Then I am happy that the artist group became also a group, who worked during the symposium, had interesting discussion (too short, would be interesting to continue them). I am sure that contacts will continue and this is also the sense of such events for me: meet other like-minded people. So thanks to you all and let's stay in contact!

I am happy to announce that I participate as artistic photographer from Luxembourg at the ART SYMPOSIUM 2009 in Saarbrücken, Germany. It is the 7th art symposium of its kind in the context of the "Welt der Familie" and takes place from September, 12 - 20, 2009, daily opening: 10 a.m - 6 p.m. Other artists are coming from Albania, France, Italy, Austria and Germany, the Saarland. The theme to work on is LAND ART.

Le symposium artistique international sur la WELT DER FAMILIE (12. – 20. septembre 2009) se composera cette année de huit artistes originaires de six nations. L'artiste GLIAUGIR, directeur artistique du symposium et Carmen Schäfer, organisation et media, ont décidé d’inviter cette année des représentants de l’Albanie, de l’Allemagne, de la France, de l’Italie, du Luxembourg et de l’Autriche. Grâce à la collaboration avec la Saarmesse GmbH et au soutien du gouvernement du Land de la Sarre ainsi que du Domicil Leidinger à Sarrebruck, il a été également possible d’inviter cette année un groupe d’artistes très intéressants. Choisis avec soin, ils seront bientôt à la disposition des visiteurs de la foire-exposition et pourront montrer leur travail et répondre directement aux questions relatives à leurs parcours artistiques, leurs façons de s’exprimer, leurs techniques et leurs expériences.

Ce symposium sera cette année parrainé par le ministre-président du Land de la Sarre, Peter Müller. Une cérémonie d’inauguration officielle, dont le déroulement sera rendu public, ouvrira cette semaine de travail pour le groupe d’artiste dans le hall d’exposition n° 9. Les œuvres d’art, qui seront crées sur place sous le titre LAND ART, seront exposées dans le cadre d’une exposition qui sera organisée après la WELT DER FAMILIE.

LAND ART est une forme artistique dont les origines datent des années 60, époque à laquelle l’art exprimait une critique sociale. Dans le paysage et hors de lui-même, il s’agissait de créer un art non vendable ou même non-transportable. L’interprétation du thème du symposium de cette année est plus libre. Le terme ne sera pas appliqué dans le sens des sciences culturelles. L'interprétation repose plutôt sur des notions générales comme le paysage, la nature et la préservation des sites, qui constituent les thèmes principaux de la foire-exposition de cette année. Au cours de la WELT DER FAMILIE, les artistes interpréteront ces thèmes de façon différente tout à fait dans leur style et dans la discipline qu’ils auront choisie.

Pressemeldung : 7. Internationales Künstlersymposion 2009

Das internationale Künstlersymposion auf der Welt der Familie findet in diesem Jahr zum 7. Mal statt. Im Jubiläumsjahr der Saarmesse, die 2009 auf 60 Jahre ihres Bestehens zurückblicken kann, feiert auch das Künstlersymposion mit und hat eine besondere Auswahl von Teilnehmern eingeladen: Sechs Länder repräsentiert die diesjährige Runde, die GLIAUGIR, der künstlerische Leiter, gemeinsam mit Carmen Schäfer, Medien und Organisation, zusammengestellt hat.

Aus Albanien, Frankreich, Italien, Luxemburg, Österreich und aus dem Saarland kommen sie und die meisten stellen in ihren Ländern selbst engagierte Gastgeber und Multiplikatoren mit internationalem Aktionsradius dar. Es lohnt sich, mit ihnen ins Gespräch zu kommen und ihnen im Symposion in Halle 9 über die Schulter zu schauen. Die Künstler sind während der gesamten Messedauer vom 12. bis 20. September 2009 von 10:00 bis 18:00 Uhr in ihren offenen Ateliers präsent. Als Profis in ihren Disziplinen haben sie völlig unterschiedliche Werdegänge; was sie jedoch sicher alle verbindet, ist Leidenschaft für ihr Metier.

Traditionsgemäß ist auch der künstlerische Leiter selbst in einem der Ateliers vertreten. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Saarmesse GmbH hat er das Projekt 2002 gegründet und als Modell konzipiert, das den Prozess des künstlerischen Schaffens auf der Plattform einer Verbrauchermesse hautnah vor den Augen des Besuchers erlebbar macht – in einem Ambiente, das man gerne auf sich wirken lässt und in einer frei begehbaren Ateliersituation, die auch das Gespräch mit dem Künstler anbietet.

Das diesjährige Motto des Symposions ist LAND ART. Allgemein definiert der Begriff eine spezielle Kunstform, deren Ursprung aus den 60er Jahren stammt und dort mit gesellschaftskritischen Bedeutungen besetzt war. Innerhalb der Landschaft und aus ihr heraus galt es eine Kunst zu schaffen, die weder zum Eigentum gemacht, noch transportiert werden konnte.

Die Interpretation dieses Mottos für die Künstler des Symposions ist freier. Es geht nicht um die Umsetzung im kunstwissenschaftlichen Sinne, sondern um die Anlehnung an Begriffsfelder aus dem Bereich Landschaftspflege, Natur und Landwirtschaft, die als übergeordnete Themen der diesjährigen Messe zugrunde liegen.

• This call is launched in March 2009. Deadline for registration and submission is May, 15 2009.  
• Call is open for CULTUREINSIDE members. New members are welcome, you can register here ! Membership is free.
• Curatorial committee is selecting the finalists.
• 30 finalists will be selected by the committee, among them several winners.
• May 31, 2009: the number and names of  winners will be announced and exhibit their art in Galerie Clairefontaine in Luxembourg.The remaining finalists will exhibit their art in an online show on CULTUREINSIDE/OUTSIDE and be part of an online catalogue.
• One public prize will be selected by the community itself and be mentioned in the online catalogue.
• June, 25 2009: opening reception - the show begins.

Luxembourg – The City of Short Distances represents a set of photographs of Luxembourg-city taken by the photographers of the Photo Club of the European Institutions in Luxembourg (CIEL).

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, geographically situated in the heart of Europe has common borders with Germany, Belgium and France. A European population of multiple nationalities lives here together, country and city build a multinational and multicultural center.

The theme, a slogan of the City of Luxembourg is interpreted in various directions. On one hand it refers to the geographic, economic and cultural situation and the existing infrastructure. On the other hand, it refers to the crossing of the borders in the political, psychological, artistic, emotional fields and even the realization of common ideas.
The exhibitors belonging to different EU-Member States caught moments in their pictures revealing to the audience also the different aspects of photography.
Photography permits to catch a fraction of a second, a fugitive instant. The before and after disappears – the instant stays. And it’s this instant that the photography presents to us – as an act documenting, testifying, and commenting or as an artistic act by touching the spectator. From picture to picture, series to series the vision changes.

The works present the density of a city in a panorama perspective, the juxtaposition of housing and natural space, juxtaposition of today and past in a city, the new rent-a-bike-system véloh just inaugurated this year, impressions taken at the new terminal of Luxembourg’s airport, testimonies of a global economy, images of “today’s nomads” and consumer crowds in the shopping malls and much more … Multiple interpretations as an open book presenting diverse visions of a city and its short distances.

Luxembourg – The City Of Short Distances

Luxembourg – The City of short distances représente un ensemble de photographies sur la ville du Luxembourg des photographes du Club Photo des Institutions Européennes à Luxembourg (CIEL).

Le Grand-Duché de Luxembourg, situé géographiquement au cœur de l’Europe, a des frontières communes avec l’Allemagne, la Belgique, et la France. Une population européenne de multiples nationalités y vit ensemble, pays et ville forment de cette façon un centre multinational et multiculturel.

Le thème, un slogan sur la ville de Luxembourg, est interprété de façon multiple. D’une part Il se réfère à la situation géographique, économique et culturelle et à la situation de l’infrastructure. D’autre part il se réfère au franchissement des frontières dans des domaines politique, psychologique, artistique, émotionnel, et surtout aux échanges et à la réalisation commune d’idées.

Les exposants venant de différents Etats-membres ont capté des instants dans leurs photos qui révèlent au spectateur les différents aspects de la photographie:

La photographie permet de capter une fraction de seconde, un instant fugitif. L’avant et l’après disparaissent – l’instant reste. Et c’est l’instant que la photographie nous présente – en tant qu’acte qui documente, témoigne, commente jusqu’à l’acte artistique afin de toucher le spectateur. De photo en photo, de série en série la vision change.

Les œuvres présentent , entre autres, la densité d’une ville en perspective panoramique, la juxtaposition d’espace habitation et nature, juxtaposition d’aujourd’hui et du passé, le système véloh introduit avec succès cette année, des impressions captées au nouveau Terminal A de l’aéroport, des témoignages d’une économie globale, des images des « nomades d’aujourd’hui » et des foules de consommateurs dans des centres commerciaux et beaucoup plus … De multiples interprétations tel un livre ouvert présentant les diverses visions d' une ville et de ses courtes distances.
