Anastasia-Zoi & Amparo Souliotou & Latorre Romero

Ampastasia is an artistic couple founded in January 2010 in Zurich, when Amparo Latorre Romero and Anastasia-Zoi Souliotou filmed videos when using a painting of Anastasia’s in a wide range of social situations. One of the most important videos is ‘NO IDEA, then AMPASTASIA, then…IDEA’, which was filmed in Underground Shop Ville in Centraal Station, Zurich.

Regarding our individual work, Anastasia investigates spatial and timal characteristics mainly in Metro stations and creates multidimensional realities, whilst Ampa’s approach brings our attention back to the human body, the subject that undergoes all the above, with the consequent psychological impacts and reactions.

Both of us are working with various materials having our common core in a strong painting background. Then, we put together Ampa’s concerns about human figure and Anastasia’s spatial explorations. The outcomes of this coupling are usually videos and joint projects in which we implicate each other in a rather spontaneous way, which then transforms into an artistic dialogue. And this is when plastic totals are gradually formed in a creative and relational context.

As an artistic couple we comment on major artistic issues in which painting and its authors are again the ‘protagonists’ of our common work. We promote interaction between us and the public through spatial interventions and performances. Integration with public is our common purpose, which is reached in a complete way through both of us, through the combination of a performative scenery and a participatory performance. We are highly interested in bridging the gap between art and life. We are seeing ourselves mostly as artists-facilitators, who create the space in which public can express themselves.

Thus, we are highly intended to broaden our artistic activity in as many countries as possible, integrate with different communities around the world, within a growing artistic and social international network.
