Profile of Iliana Tosheva

Iliana Tosheva

I am a professional artist and goldsmith who currently lives and works in London, UK.

As a person and creator I dislike staying the same size.

What has permanently inspired me over the years has always been a fleeting image of a less traditional shape, texture or colour - or a blend of the three put together - that will take my breath away on a sentimental journey ‘back to nature’ and, most importantly to me, on a journey back to who I have never been and I have always wanted to be.
My art is a nostalgic journey back to places I have never seen and to dreams that will never come true…

Over the last few years my interest has been steadily focused on exploring the multi-layered female sexuality: hidden or intentionally put on a display, recognized or ashamed of, confessed, whispered, cried out, impossible to share and impossible to ignore, impossible to live with and impossible to live without...

Most of the time, I think in grey, black and white, the only vibrant red accent being my antiqued picture frames perfectly ‘encaging’ the ever present and the ever disturbing awareness of how short and precious our time on earth is.

I work in acrylic and oil on canvas or watercolour paper.
Left with any piece of paper is always a temptation though…

Currently I sell through Saatchi Online (http://www.saatchionline.com/profile/154608) and Fine Art America (http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/iliana-tosheva.html).

  • Your two recent portraits convey to me a sense of life in a grey winter light which holds only frail promises of spring. The impact of the present, the immediacy of the experience is stronger and deeper than any theories about it. Love them both Ileana.

  • Hello Iliana,
"Vera "Shauna, Francine" with this enigmatic title appears to me like a symbol for woman. The mysterious atmosphere of this work and its clarity at the same time are admirable.
    Best wishes
    Christine
