Amitabh SenGupta


Born in Calcutta, 1941

• Graduated from Govt. College of Arts & Crafts, Kolkata, 1963.
• Received French Govt. Scholarships to study Painting and Printmaking at Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, 1966-1968.

• Ed.M. from the Sate University of New York at Buffalo, 1981.

• Taught art for eleven years between 1977 and 1988 in two universities in Nigeria, as the Head of the Dept. of Creative Arts. Traveled extensively in Africa, Europe and Far East.

• Exhibited in Europe, USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo besides participating in major shows in India.

• Returned to Calcutta in 1989 and set up a workplace for painting, research and Video Art; published writings on contemporary and folk arts.

• Member of Calcutta Painters;
Founder member of Art Trust, Kolkata (Calcutta).

  • i must confess to you that when i came here the first time i gave stars to your "Truck 4-08" and because it sliped my mouse, it stayed 4 stars (and i tried to change it but it won't let me! :-(. since i feel bad for that because i think it deserves not only 5 stars but much more (and it's in fact regarding all gallery!!) i came here also to tell you that! your painting is a million stars!!!! :-)

    This image caught my eye as a thumbnail in someones lightbox.
    I like how you have to look twice to determine just exactly what is carring the image. Good work!

    Your works are so wonderful. The interiors take a different meaning with your hangings around. You seemed to have taken the primary geometric shapes into a structure of combinations, with touches of colors, that reached a high aesthetic zone. Congrats so much.
